Turfgrass Internship – Mapleton Golf Club

Mapleton is a new premier private club in Sioux Falls, SD. Course construction started in the fall of 2023 and was completed in August of 2025, opening for fall golf. The 2026 season will be the first full season of play. We are set to complete the grow-in process of our short course this spring and open for play in spring 2026. Mapleton's vision is to be Sioux Falls' first-ever private 'Golf Club', offering the best championship golf course in the area, fine dining, and overnight lodging accommodations. Turf Grass interns will gain valuable grow-in experience, participate in cultural practices, and learn from an experienced superintendent.

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented turfgrass Intern to assist with the daily operations and maintenance of the golf course. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in course construction, the grow-in process, golf course management, and turf care under the guidance of an experienced superintendent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Course Maintenance:
  • Assist in the daily operation of managing high-level turf, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, and pest management.
  • Participate in cultural practices.
  •  Management of bent grass, low-mow bluegrass, and fine fescues.
• Equipment Operation:
  • Learn to operate and maintain various equipment necessary for maintenance.
  • Learn the importance of preventative maintenance and reel grinding.
• Irrigation Management:
  • Observe and assist in managing the irrigation system. Basic controller operation: Toro Lynx.
  • Head and pipe repairs as needed.
  • Understand watering techniques: hand watering, portable heads, and overhead irrigation.
• Pest Control and Fertilization:
  • Assist in the application of pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides while ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Obtain a South Dakota applicator License.
• Project Assistance:
  • Assist in special projects, including seeding greens, tees, fairways, and native areas, sod projects, tree trimming, drainage improvements, and course layout modifications.
  • Lead small groups.
• Team Collaboration:
  • Work alongside the Superintendent and maintenance team to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Create and implement new ways to improve daily operations.
