Job Details
The Country Club of York is seeking a motivated Assistant-in-Training (AIT) to join its agronomy team. This position reports directly to the Director of Green and Grounds and the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents and assists in the direction and hands-on maintenance of the golf course, including tees, greens, fairways, and the irrigation system. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven individual seeking exposure to all aspects of golf course management at a championship-level facility.

Founded in 1899, the Country Club of York is a private golf club located in York, Pennsylvania, with a long-standing reputation for excellence in course conditioning and tournament hosting. The Club has hosted numerous National, State, and Regional Championships, including:
- 1999 U.S. Junior Amateur
- 1974 & 2011 Pennsylvania State Women’s Golf Association Amateur
- 1989, 2014 & 2023 Pennsylvania Golf Association Open Championship
- 1994 & 2005 Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur
- 2012 Women’s Eastern Amateur
- Four U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships
- 2014 & 2023 Pennsylvania State Open Championship
Upcoming and future events include the 2026 U.S. Open Qualifier, a York College Collegiate Event, the 2027 Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship, and two USGA Championships:
- 2029 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur
- 2035 U.S. Women’s Four-Ball Amateur
The Country Club of York is currently implementing a long-term master plan in collaboration with golf course architect Andrew Green, with the goal of completing one major project each fall. Most recently, the Club completed a major renovation of the 13th green and 14th tee complexes, performed by McDonald and Sons Golf Course Designers.
Position Summary
The Assistant-in-Training will assist in the daily maintenance and improvement of all playing surfaces while gaining structured exposure to all facets of golf course operations, including tournament preparation, irrigation management, and renovation projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and rough
- Participate in irrigation system operation, repair, and troubleshooting
- Assist with daily planning and execution of maintenance programs
- Support tournament preparation and championship conditioning
- Assist with renovation and master plan projects
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures

Job Requirements
Experience preferred but not required
Willing to train individuals who demonstrate strong work ethic, drive, and dedication to advancing in the turfgrass industry
Recent graduate with a 2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field from an accredited institution
Hard-working, dependable, and punctual
Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment
Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency
Knowledge of current turf equipment and products
Strong attention to detail
Demonstrated leadership skills or leadership potential
