Groundskeeper Supervisor – Multi Field Soccer Facility

Louisiana Fire Soccer Club

Full-Time | Reports to: Operations Director / Executive Administrator

About the Role

Louisiana Fire Soccer Club is seeking an experienced and hands-on Groundskeeper Supervisor to lead the maintenance and operations of our multi-field soccer complexes. Our facilities feature multiple full-size natural grass and/or artificial turf soccer fields, training areas, and surrounding grounds used year-round for youth, amateur, semi-pro, and tournament play.
You will be responsible for ensuring all playing surfaces are safe, high-quality, and consistently meet the demands of heavy usage while leading a small-to-medium grounds crew. This is a working supervisor role — you will both manage the team and actively perform critical field maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate a team of groundskeepers and seasonal staff (typically 2-4 people depending on season)
  • Plan and execute daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance programs for multiple natural grass and/or synthetic turf soccer fields, including mowing, grooming, irrigation management, fertilization, aeration, topdressing, overseeding, weed/pest control, and line marking
  • Prepare fields for matches, tournaments, practices, and events — ensuring fast, safe, and playable surfaces under tight schedules
  • Operate, maintain, and schedule service for grounds equipment (tractors, reel mowers,  aerators, top dresser, sprayers, utility vehicles, line painters, etc.)
  • Manage irrigation systems — monitor performance, adjust schedules, troubleshoot/repair issues, and conserve water
  • Coordinate field usage schedules with coaches, event coordinators, tournament directors, and facility management to maximize availability while protecting turf health
  • Conduct regular field inspections for safety hazards, wear patterns, compaction, drainage issues, and pest/disease pressure — implement corrective actions quickly
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, chemical/fertilizer applications (following all local, state, and federal regulations), equipment service logs, and inventory
  • Assist with major field renovation or construction projects (overseeding programs, drainage improvements, turf replacement, etc.)
  • Enforce safety protocols for staff and ensure proper use of PPE, chemicals, and equipment
  • Respond to after-hours or weekend emergencies (storm damage, irrigation failures, urgent field prep) on a rotating/on-call basis

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience maintaining high-use athletic fields (soccer preferred)
  • 1–3+ years in a supervisory or lead role managing grounds crews
  • Strong working knowledge of turfgrass management practices for cool-season and/or warm-season grasses (or synthetic turf maintenance if applicable)
  • Experience operating and performing basic maintenance on turf equipment (reel mowers, tractors, aerators, sprayers, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • Knowledge of safe application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides (state pesticide applicator license preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks (lifting 50–80 lbs, bending, standing for long periods)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field is a plus)

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Pesticide applicator license (or equivalent)
  • Experience with both natural grass and artificial turf fields
  • Irrigation system design/repair knowledge (Rain Bird, Toro, Hunter controllers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with sports field measurement, line marking, and FIFA/US Soccer field standards
  • Basic understanding of soil testing and interpretation
  • Previous work in a multi-field soccer academy, sports complex, university, or professional training facility
