Equipment/Shop Manager

Job Details

The Golf Course Equipment Manager is a key member of the Grounds Department, responsible for the preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of all golf course equipment and related assets. Reporting directly to the Director of Agronomy and/or the Golf Course Superintendent, this position ensures that all equipment is maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance in support of superior playing conditions.

This role oversees the planning and execution of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, including equipment inspections, repairs, inventory control, and record-keeping for parts, labor, and service schedules. The Equipment Manager communicates maintenance needs, operational concerns, and repair priorities effectively to leadership and coordinates daily work assignments for the Assistant Equipment Manager. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe maintenance facility is a core responsibility of this position.

The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and detail-oriented professional with strong mechanical expertise, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a high level of accountability, professionalism, and collaboration, as the quality of equipment maintenance directly impacts course conditions, operational efficiency, and the overall guest experience. Bilingual communication skills, including Spanish, are preferred but not required.

Duties

· Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various maintenance equipment such as diesel, electric and gasoline powered vehicles, mowers, etc...

· Trains employees how to identify problems and perform preventative maintenance, the proper cleaning, and most importantly the safe operation

· Prioritizes maintenance and equipment repair work

· Maintains a PM budget program within budget, purchases parts and replacement supply

· Keeps a complete set of records, inventory, and cost and repairs

· Checks equipment for performance on the golf course, makes emergency repairs and supervises servicing equipment prior to use.

· Oversees and keeps the maintenance areas clean

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must have the ability to move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift to 50 pounds. Physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure at a fast pace are essential. Must have the mental fortitude to handle the pressures of multiple tasks while providing excellent guest service.

Work is generally performed outside, exposure to heat, cold and rain. Early mornings, holiday and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts are required.

Job Requirements

Experience Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

· Experience in MAINTENANCE, diagnostics, and repair of turf equipment.

· Experience in cutting unit set-up, ideally with Foley reel and bed knife grinders.

· Ability to read and follow manuals, understand preventive maintenance requirements and schedules, and repair equipment.

· Know and have the ability to utilize various trade tools and the safety guidelines of their use.

· Familiarity with managing a budget.

· Ability to utilize computer software systems such as a purchase order system, Excel, Word, and PM Software.

· Ability to understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course

Educational Requirements

Education and Experience:

· High school degree or equivalent required

· 2 years’ experience with golf course equipment repair or auto repair.

· Knowledge of small engine repair and maintenance.

· Valid driver’s license. Driving record meeting Company safety policies and guidelines.

· Positive attitude, professional manner, and appearance in all situations.
