We are seeking a skilled, motivated Irrigation Technician to join our agronomy team and help maintain the elite playing conditions that define the Southern Hills experience.
Position Summary
The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the golf course irrigation system to ensure optimal turf health, water efficiency, and superior course conditions. This role works closely with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents and plays a critical part in delivering championship-level course presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain the computerized irrigation system
- Diagnose and repair irrigation issues including valves, heads, wiring, and pipe systems
- Adjust watering schedules based on weather, turf needs, and course conditions
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Assist with pump station operation and troubleshooting
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and system performance
- Support daily golf course maintenance activities as needed
- Ensure water conservation and environmental stewardship practices are followed

Job Requirements
Preferred:
1–3 years of golf course irrigation or related experience
Knowledge of irrigation control systems (Toro, Rain Bird, or similar)
Understanding of turfgrass irrigation principles
Ability to read irrigation maps and schematics
Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Required:
Valid driver’s license
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions
High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position
Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
Frequent repetitive motions. Continuous standing and walking.
May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat.
