Black Squirrel Golf Club

Black Squirrel Golf Club is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Golf Course Superintendent to lead all golf course maintenance and agronomic operations at our public facility. This is an opportunity to take ownership of course conditions, lead a team, and guide the long-term improvement of the property.

The Superintendent reports directly to ownership/management and plays a key leadership role in club operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Daily Duties

  • Supervise mowing operations (greens, tees, fairways, rough)
  • Monitor turf health and course conditions
  • Assign and oversee maintenance staff
  • Adjust irrigation scheduling
  • Ensure bunkers and grounds meet presentation standards
  • Maintain safe work practices

Weekly Duties

  • Coordinate turf health programs with spray technician
  • Inspect and maintain irrigation systems
  • Oversee equipment maintenance scheduling
  • Manage staff training and scheduling
  • Track budget and inventory
  • Plan and execute improvement projects

Annual Duties

  • Develop and manage the maintenance budget
  • Plan aerification, overseeding, and topdressing programs
  • Conduct soil testing and long-term turf planning
  • Recommend capital equipment purchases
  • Hire and evaluate staff
  • Prepare course for tournaments and seasonal transitions

Occasional Duties

  • Assist with chemical applications only if operationally necessary
  • Support special projects during peak seasons

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements

Degree in Turfgrass Management, Turf Science, Agronomy, or related field

OR

Minimum of 3 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience (supervisory experience preferred)

Valid driver’s license

Strong understanding of turf health and agronomic practices

Note: A pesticide applicator license is not required. A dedicated spray technician handles routine chemical applications.
